LSU AgCenter 2023 Rabbit Show Winners Announced
The winners of the 2023 LSU AgCenter 4-H and FFA State Rabbit Show have been announced.
Rodney Johnson, AgCenter agent in Rapides Parish, said the show, which was held at the State Evacuation Shelter in Alexandria on March 4, welcomed 485 exhibition rabbits and eight meat pens.
Hundreds of hard-working exhibitors showed off all the skills acquired through their rabbit project work.

Honey production during 2022 from Louisiana producers with five or more colonies totaled 2.56 million pounds, up 19 percent from 2021. There were 42,000 honey producing colonies in 2022, up 5,000 colonies from previous year.

First South Farm Credit Distributes $21 Million in Cash to Its Member/Borrowers
First South Farm Credit announced today that it will distribute $21 million in patronage refund checks to its member/borrowers in April. A patronage refund is a payment from a cooperative to a member/borrower based on its earnings and financial performance in proportion to the borrower’s use of the cooperative. “Thanks to our member/borrowers, 2022 was another year of strong performance. As a result, the First South Board of Directors has declared a cash patronage of $21 million, representing a refund of 15.63% of the interest earned on loans by our member/borrowers. This continues our commitment to the cooperatives principal of returning earnings to our customer,” said Gines Pérez, CEO of First South.
