Farm Bureau Queen to Ride on Louisiana’s Rose Parade Float

2022 Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen Allison Powell and former Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen an current Queen Sugar LXXIX Avery Hebert will be featured on the Louisiana Celebration Riverboat float during the Rose Parade on the morning of Monday, Jan. 2 in Pasadena, Calif.

The float will depict a Louisiana icon — the riverboat or paddlewheel steamboat – decorated entirely with flowers, leaves and seeds.

US Secretary of Agriculture Declares Disaster in 11 La. Parishes Due to Rain Losses in August

Farmers in 11 Louisiana parishes and another 30 parishes and counties in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas are eligible for disaster aid from the USDA. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack sent a letter to La. Governor John Bel Edwards dated December 20, 2022 that Loss Assessment Reports showed sufficient losses in those 11 parishes to warrant a secretarial disaster declaration.

$3.7 Billion in Disaster Aid in Senate Omnibus Bill

Merry Christmas! We have continued to work with our delegation and other key members of Congress to secure assistance for 2022 for Louisiana farmers and ranchers. I am pleased to report that two pieces of farmer assistance, and a third industry assistance piece are proposed to be included in this week’s Omnibus appropriations legislation. New Documentary Explores Sustainability on Farms

Farmers and the agricultural research community joined forces in an Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB)-produced documentary highlighting Illinois’ progress in reducing nutrient loss.

Centered around the Ganschow family in Bureau County, the hourlong documentary titled “Sustaining Our Future: A Farm Family Story” illustrates how three generations of farmers have approached sustainability. It also highlights the role of scientific research in the process and includes perspectives from Louisiana Farm Bureau on the hypoxic zone in the Gulf of Mexico.

Louisiana Farm Bureau Seeks Disaster Aid from US House and Senate Appropriations Committees

A letter is now in the hands of the chairs of U.S. Senate and House Appropriations Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies and the Ranking Republican Members on those subcommittees seeking aid for farmers and ranchers who suffered losses due to weather disasters in 2022.
