As Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation (LFBF) continues to work with agencies and government officials to quantify the losses from August rain events, summer drought, and other weather related losses to this 2022 crop, we have received word from Louisiana’s Farm Service Agency that they are actively documenting the production losses from 2022 natural disasters. 

This documentation effort will be the difference between a Secretarial Disaster Declaration or not. A Secretarial Disaster Declaration will be key in LFBF’s efforts to secure ad hoc disaster funding and ultimately can decide whether you and your parish are eligible for such funds if they become available to USDA. 

Thus, we now encourage you, as you complete harvest of crops or have data to quantify production losses on your farm, to contact your USDA-FSA office and accurately report your production losses to covered commodities from natural causes of loss (drought, excessive moisture, etc.).
