$3.7 Billion in Disaster Aid in Senate Omnibus Bill

Merry Christmas! We have continued to work with our delegation and other key members of Congress to secure assistance for 2022 for Louisiana farmers and ranchers. I am pleased to report that two pieces of farmer assistance, and a third industry assistance piece are proposed to be included in this week’s Omnibus appropriations legislation. We have asked Congress to support these measures and would encourage you to reach out to your member asking for support too.

New Documentary Explores Sustainability on Farms

Farmers and the agricultural research community joined forces in an Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB)-produced documentary highlighting Illinois’ progress in reducing nutrient loss.

Centered around the Ganschow family in Bureau County, the hourlong documentary titled “Sustaining Our Future: A Farm Family Story” illustrates how three generations of farmers have approached sustainability. It also highlights the role of scientific research in the process and includes perspectives from Louisiana Farm Bureau on the hypoxic zone in the Gulf of Mexico.

Louisiana Farm Bureau Seeks Disaster Aid from US House and Senate Appropriations Committees

A letter is now in the hands of the chairs of U.S. Senate and House Appropriations Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies and the Ranking Republican Members on those subcommittees seeking aid for farmers and ranchers who suffered losses due to weather disasters in 2022.

Allison Powell named 2022 La. Farm Bureau Queen

Allison Powell’s roots in St. Charles Parish are deep, and now she will represent not only the parish but the entire state of Louisiana as the 2022 Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen.

“I have family members who were in the St. Charles Farm Bureau,” she said. “My grandfather AJ Melancon was the parish’s county agent between the 40s and the 70s and the farm bureau office in St. Charles Parish is located where his farm used to be. He gave up farming land for the office.”
