Daughter of Slain Lafourche Deputy Crowned Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen Felt His Presence

Gracie Pepper said she felt her father's presence on stage with her when she was crowned Louisiana Farm Bureau queen less than three months after Lafourche Parish Det. Sgt. Nicholas Pepper was killed in the line of duty.

"My mom (Christie) said, 'Your daddy's on this stage working overtime,'" said Pepper, her voice cracking again recalling Saturday's pageant as part of the annual Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans. "We cried together."

State Fire Marshal Asking for Information on Effie Tractor Fire Investigation

The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) is working with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Agriculture Crimestoppers Reward Program in reference to a tractor fire investigation.

The Effie Volunteer Fire Department responded to a smoldering tractor on June 18 around 7:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Effie Highway. A John Deere 7820 tractor was severely damaged in the fire on farm property.
