Louisiana's Largest Medical Marijuana Producer Expands Growing Operation To Ruston
Louisiana's largest medical marijuana producer is expanding its growing operation to Ruston, where LSU AgCenter partner Good Day Farm is putting a 225,000-square-foot warehouse into production.
Good Day Farm President John Davis said Louisiana Department of Agriculture regulators are inspecting the facility Tuesday.
Davis said he expects the company to begin moving plants from Baton Rouge into the warehouse this month after the facility gets the green light from the regulators.

SU Ag Center & the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences receives more than $700,000 in USDA Capacity Building Grants
The Southern University Ag Center and the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences (CAFCS) have received $749,795 in Capacity Building grants from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The announcement was made in July through a USDA press release discussing its $21.8 million investment to 1890 Land-grant Institutions to support research at Historically Black Colleges and Universities at our nation’s Land-grant University System.

Dr. Donovan Segura appointed Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Title IX at the SU Ag Center
Donovan Segura, Ph.D., has been appointed the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Title IX at the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center. The appointment was approved on August 20, 2021 by the Southern University Board of Supervisors during its August meeting.

Whitley Named Foreign Agricultural Service Administrator
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack named Daniel Whitley the new administrator of USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. Whitley has served as the agency’s acting administrator since December 2020 and a staffer at the agency for 20 years. As administrator he will oversee personnel in nearly 100 U.S. embassies consulates, and international organizations around the world and collectively providing representation across 180 countries.

SULC hosting 3rd Annual Cannabis and Hemp Continuing Education Symposium
The Southern University Law Center’s Cannabis Compliance, Law and Policy Institute, in partnership with the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, is hosting the third annual Cannabis and Hemp Continuing Education Symposium July 29-31.
“The cannabis industry, which includes marijuana and industrial hemp, is constantly evolving,” said Marla Dickerson, managing fellow of the Cannabis Compliance, Law, and Policy Institute. “Interest is growing and it is imperative that the SULC Cannabis Compliance, Law and Policy Institute helps to educate the community to enhance knowledge for patients, consumers, and industry persons” she said.

SU Ag Center set to host a Small Farmers and Ranchers Cattleman’s Field Day
The Southern University Ag Center will host a Small Farmers and Ranchers Cattlemen's Field Day at 8 a.m. on June 26 at the Galilee Cattle Company, 25057 Hwy. 450 in Franklinton, LA.
The field day will feature farm demonstrations, animal vaccinations, hay bailing, and information on animal health. There will also be a legal issues clinic and onsite computer training through the Southern University Ag Center’s Mobile Technology Center.
