Raising, Processing Farm Chickens at Abbeville High
Abbeville High School students were given the opportunity to gain practical knowledge in animal husbandry and understand the intricacies of food production from farm to table.
The slaughtering of 22 chickens, which were raised by the students, was observed by the Agriculture I and II classes, as well as other students.

November is here and so is the drought. Over 90% of Louisiana, as of the first two weeks in November, is in severe to extreme drought. Cattle receipts at our local sale barns stayed high through October due in part to drought and high cattle prices. These numbers will decrease as we go into December.

2023 ALTAC Jr. Livestock Sale
The 2023 ArkLaTex Agricultural Council's Jr. Livestock Sale at the State Fair of Louisiana was a huge success. It's estimated that supporters spent more than $489,213 at the sale on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The Grand Champion Steer, raised by Guy Mark Haynes from Allen Parish, sold for $11,000. The auction is the culmination of months of hard work by thousands of students across the state involved in 4-H and FFA.

PETA Launches Pressure Campaign for Charges Against Poultry Processing Plant
PETA is sounding the alarm about a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a report into the House of Raeford Farms revealed more than 1,800 chickens were burned alive inside two trailers after a tire exploded on two separate occasions.
PETA is now launching a pressure campaign to stop the ‘illegal suffering’ in the backyard of Claiborne Parish residents.

On October 23, Ammarian D. Reed of Tallulah, La., was arrested for livestock theft by inspectors with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission. The arrest was the result of warrants in both Madison and Richland parishes.

One of the biggest days of the year for local students is almost here. It's when the best of the best compete in the ArkLaTex Agricultural Council's Jr. Livestock Sale at the State Fair of Louisiana.
It's set for Nov. 1 in the fairgrounds Sale Arena. Students from across the state have put in blood, sweat, and tears for months getting their show animals ready for auction. Prospective buyers will be on hand ready to offer up the highest bids.
