The Louisiana Beef Industry Council (LBIC) is excited to announce that May has been declared as Louisiana Beef Month by Governor John Bel Edwards. This month-long celebration recognizes the significant contributions made by Louisiana’s beef farmers and ranchers. Louisiana Beef Month also highlights the nutritional benefits of beef and showcases the delicious and diverse beef recipes that are enjoyed throughout the state.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to get tougher on Salmonella bacteria found in breaded, stuffed raw chicken products, the agency announced Tuesday.

About 1.35 million people are infected with Salmonella bacteria each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Almost a quarter of the nation’s Salmonella infections are caused by eating poultry.

Some Pre brand ground beef burger patties, which are sold in some grocery stores and nationwide on Amazon, have been recalled.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday said Louisiana can enforce a state law forbidding companies from intentionally using misleading meat-like terms when selling plant-based food, reversing a lower court ruling in a case brought by the maker of Tofurky.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission will host its next saddle microchipping event Thursday, April 20, from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M.  It will be held at the LDAF’s Monroe office at 754 Highway 80 East.
