Governor Edwards Proclaims May as Louisiana Beef Month

The Louisiana Beef Industry Council (LBIC) is excited to announce that May has been declared as Louisiana Beef Month by Governor John Bel Edwards. This month-long celebration recognizes the significant contributions made by Louisiana’s beef farmers and ranchers. Louisiana Beef Month also highlights the nutritional benefits of beef and showcases the delicious and diverse beef recipes that are enjoyed throughout the state.

Louisiana has a rich history of cattle farming starting back in the 1700s and currently includes more than 775,000 head of cattle in the state. The Louisiana beef industry provides jobs, contributes to the state’s economy, and provides high-quality, nutritious beef products for consumers across the country.

“Beef is an important part of Louisiana’s culinary heritage, and we are thrilled to celebrate this nutritious and delicious protein source during Louisiana Beef Month” said John Thompson, Chairman of the Louisiana Beef Industry Council. “We encourage everyone to learn more about the nutritional benefits of beef and the incredible work of our farmers and ranchers, while enjoying beef during Louisiana Beef Month and all year long.”

Beef is a nutritious protein source packed with essential vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, and B-vitamins. Beef is also incredibly versatile and can be incorporated into a wide range of recipes to suit any taste preference. During Louisiana Beef Month, the LBIC is highlighting the nutritional value of beef and encouraging consumers to try new and exciting beef recipes through @louisianabeef on Facebook and Instagram.

“We are proud of the hardworking men and women who make up our beef industry,” said Thompson. “Their dedication and commitment to producing high-quality beef is essential to our state’s economy and our country’s food supply. We hope that everyone will join us in celebrating Louisiana Beef Month this May.”
