Today, PETA claims a membership of 6.5 million.

Humane Society of the United States, the wealthiest animal rights activist organization on the planet, does not participate in public demonstrations where members throw fake blood at celebrities wearing fur coats or dress in lettuce leaves to promote a vegan diet.

Abbeville High student takes home ‘Dub’ Kennedy Award

Even though normal was not a word used much during the 86th annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show held recently at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana 4-H and FFA members were still rewarded for their hard work.


Five students were recognized for their achievements in their various livestock programs based on their 4-H portfolio or FFA application. The five awards are the Governor’s Award for a 4-H member and an FFA member 14 years old and older, the Superintendent of Education Award for a 4-H member and an FFA member 13 years old and younger, and the C.W. “Dub” Kennedy Award in Animal Science.

Meat Purchases & Confidence at Record Highs

Although the pandemic has turned our world upside done, it also shed a light on consumers buying habits. Americans are buying more beef, pork, poultry, and lamb than ever as increased time at home during the pandemic sent meat grocery sales soaring by 20 percent (IRI) from 2019 to 2020.

The national analysis released today shows that three out of every four Americans agree meat belongs in healthy, balanced diets (up by nearly 20 percent since 2020), and 94 percent say they buy meat because it provides high-quality protein.

Chicken and Pork in Cold Storage Lead to Lower Overall Levels of Meat and Poultry

USDA’s latest Cold Storage Report, released Monday, shows animal protein levels are still impacted by COVID-19. The monthly report, provided by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, shows the end-of-month volume of commodities in freezer storage throughout the U.S. An important market-moving report, it covers most commodities that require cold transport, ranging from nuts, to fruits and vegetables, to dairy and meat.

Man Arrested In Ouachita Parish For Stolen Livestock

A Caldwell Parish man is accused of stealing 43 head of cattle from a livestock producer in Ouachita Parish.

Investigators with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission received a complaint in November 2020 in which Brian D. Robinson, 52, 591 Johnson Rd., Columbia, La. allegedly purchased but failed to pay for the cattle in 2019.

Youths Earn Gerry Lane Premier Exhibitor Awards At AgCenter Livestock Show

Six Louisiana youths were recognized for their knowledge, skills and communication abilities as they were named winners of the Gerry Lane Premier Exhibitor Award at the 86th Annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

For the past 23 years, the premier exhibitor program has recognized 4-H and FFA members who may not have champion animals, but who have a thorough understanding of animal science.

The awards are based on performance in tests of each youth’s knowledge of the livestock industry, practical exercises demonstrating skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

You hope you only have one each year, but you mentally prepare for whatever the season brings. You know for certain that each will have his or her own personality not soon forgotten, along with that signature cocktail of milk replacer and calf saliva coating your jacket sleeves and blue jeans.

Bottle calves have been raising ranch kids since the beginning of time. And each has been a mostly patient instructor of the aforementioned humans. The calves that raised me and Rachel were endowed with an extra dose of creative tolerance.
