Corn planting is wrapping up earlier than normal in Concordia Parish thanks to recent dry weather, according to Kylie Miller, LSU Extension agent.
“Weather has been really good for planting,” Miller said. “Everybody has been able to get back in the fields and start planting.”

Mexico Loosens Ban on GM Corn, but U.S. Still Disappointed
Finally, some progress on Mexico’s GM corn ban. Yesterday, Mexican President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador softened his stance on the ban of genetically-modified corn from the U.S. after pressure from the Biden administration.
But, the United States says that it isn’t enough. “The U.S. believes in and adheres to a science-based, rules-based trading system and remains committed to preventing disruptions to bilateral agricultural trade and economic harm to U.S. and Mexican producers,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a statement.

Agroconsult Forecasts Record Brazilian Soybean, Corn Crops
Agroconsult expects Brazil to produce record corn and soybean crops in 2022-23, despite dry weather in the far southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. The firm expect Brazilian soybean production to reach 153.4 MMT, which is just below Conab’s official forecast of 153.5 MMT it forecast in December. Agroconsult projects total corn production at 130.9 MMT, including the first crop at 29.6 MMT and the safrinha crop at 101.3 MMT. In December, Conab pegged Brazil’s corn crop at 125.8 MMT, though that was based off an estimate of the first corn crop and projections for safrinha acreage and yield.

November 2022 Crop Market Report
This month’s 2022/23 U.S. corn outlook is for higher production, larger feed and residual use, and greater ending stocks. Corn production is forecast at 13.930 billion bushels, up 35 million from last month on a 0.4-bushel increase in yield to 172.3 bushels per acre. Feed and residual use is higher based on a larger crop. With supply rising more than use, corn ending stocks are raised 10 million bushels.

October 2022 Crop Market Update for Corn, Soybeans, Rice, and Cotton
This month’s 2022/23 U.S. corn outlook is for reduced supplies, greater feed and residual use, lower exports and corn used for ethanol, and smaller ending stocks. Corn production is forecast at 13.895 billion bushels, down 49 million on a reduction in yield to 171.9 bushels per acre. Corn supplies are forecast at 15.322 billion bushels, a decline of 172 million bushels from last month, as lower production and beginning stocks are partially offset by higher imports.
