ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Anna Timmerman is an LSU AgCenter Horticulture Agent working in the greater New Orleans area parishes of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines. Anna has a diverse background within the industry, and prior to working for LSU ran several businesses. From 1999-2006 Timmerman focused on growing cut flowers, nursery stock and market vegetables in West Michigan for sales to local chefs and at two farmer's markets. From 2008-2012 she worked in Chicago, providing custom vegetable production services on urban properties owned by several Michelin-ranked chefs, and rooftop gardening in the downtown districts. From 2012-2017, Timmerman focused on running a landscaping company in New Orleans, focused on edible gardening, historic garden restoration, urban agriculture, and stormwater mitigation plantings using native species. Timmerman is currently finishing a Masters thesis on containerized satsuma research at LSU and plans to pursue her PhD in citrus. She lives and gardens with her partner in the Upper 9th Ward, where they have a small nursery producing over 70 species of Louisiana native plants, as well as a "micro farm" raising chickens, quail, ducks, pheasants, and rabbits.

"Online workshop!! Maybe have our local teenagers watch and start a community garden in each school district? And then sell their produce at our Third Street Farmers Market to earn money for school projects and trips next year? Or each sports team raise a garden to fund themselves throughout the year? We need to teach these next generations to support themselves!" stated the Greater Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce
