An extended drought is causing low water levels in key shipping channels like the Mississippi River, and officials trying to address the problems say the fix is out of their hands.

Rancher Jason Smith Wins Washington Parish Sheriff’s Race
There’s a new sheriff in Washington Parish.
Jason Smith won Saturday’s runoff election, ousting longtime sheriff Randy “Country” Seal.

USDA: Farm Share Of US Food Dollar Dipped Below 15 Cents In '22
U.S. farm establishments received 14.9 cents per dollar spent on domestically produced food in 2022 as compensation for farm commodity production.
