Letlow Wants to Help Rural Public Safety Agencies

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow is co-authoring legislation to provide rural communities with grants to upgrade their police and fire departments. Letlow said it’s time to step up and help our first responders in small towns.

“This bill will prioritize new grants for small and rural public agencies that will be focused on upgrading local law enforcement and fire department facilities that serve fewer than 50,000 residents,” said Letlow.

Louisiana is the First and Only State to Compete 2023 Soybean Harvest So Far

Louisiana was the first state to wrap up soybean harvest for the week ending Oct. 29, and remains the only state to have finished harvesting soybeans for the week ending Nov. 5, USDA reports.

Mike Strain, commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, says that heat and drought resulted in some poor yields for the state’s first batch of soybeans, averaging 10 to 12 bushels per acre (bpa).

Cattle receipts at our local sale barns stayed high through October due in part to drought and high cattle prices. These numbers will decrease as we go into December.
