The feeder cattle and calf market has not been paying much attention to the CME Futures Market because throughout September these prices continued to get higher even when the futures market was $6.00-$7.00 per lb. lower some weeks while the live market continued higher.

National Cattlemen's Foundation Accepting Applications For CME Group Beef Industry Scholarship

The National Cattlemen’s Foundation (NCF) encourages college students pursuing careers in the beef industry to apply for the 2026 CME Group Beef Industry Scholarship. Ten scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded.

Introduced in 1989 and sponsored by CME Group, the scholarship identifies and encourages talented students who play a vital role in the future of food production. Students studying education, communication, production, research or other areas related to the beef industry are eligible to apply for the annual scholarship program.

Vernon Parish Students Learn Ins and Outs of Cattle Ranching

Some Louisiana high schoolers traded their books for boots today, learning firsthand how cattle are raised and what it takes to bring beef to the table.

The Vernon Parish Cattlemen’s Association held its 12th annual event today to show teens where beef really comes from. Their classroom for the day was Porter Ranch, a working cattle ranch spread over 800 acres.

Deadline Approaching: USDA To Provide $1B To Flood & Wildfire Impacted Livestock Producers

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced eligible livestock producers will receive disaster recovery assistance through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program for 2023 and 2024 Flood and Wildfire (ELRP 2023 and 2024 FW) to help offset increased supplemental feed costs due to a qualifying flood or qualifying wildfire in calendar years 2023 and 2024. The program is expected to provide approximately $1 billion in recovery benefits. Sign-up begins on Monday, September 15. Livestock producers have until October 31, 2025, to apply for assistance.

Mexico Confirms Case of New World Screwworm in Nuevo Leon

Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimentary Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed a new case of New World screwworm (NWS) in Sabinas Hidalgo, located in the state of Nuevo León, less than 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border.

This is now the northernmost detection of NWS during this outbreak, and the one most threatening to the American cattle and livestock industry. Sabinas Hidalgo is located near the major highway from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, to Laredo, Texas, which is one of the most heavily trafficked commercial thoroughfares in the world.

Who would have thought that according to USDA, The National Weekly Feeder and Stocker Summary for the week ending August 23, 2025, showed 400-700 lbs. steers bringing $650.00-$700.00 per head more than the same time a year ago in the Southeast region. Many are saying the market will go higher. Again, PLEASE don’t get caught with a cow herd that has an average age of over 10 years.
