Three To Be Inducted Into Louisiana Ag Hall Of Distinction

Three icons of Louisiana agriculture will be inducted into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction during a ceremony at L’Auberge Hotel in Baton Rouge on March 24.

The new inductees are former director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service and current chancellor of LSU Alexandria Paul Coreil, of Alexandria; long time Louisiana Radio Network farm broadcaster Don Molino, of Baton Rouge; and Jim Monroe, of Pineville, the former assistant to the president at Louisiana Farm Bureau, where Monroe worked for 47 years.

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain Warns of Higher Grocery Bills

AAA reports another large jump in gas prices as the statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline is up another 15-cents from yesterday to $3.63. The price for a gallon of diesel gasoline has surpassed four dollars. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the rising price for fuel will head to higher prices for groceries.

“If you look at the price of diesel and fertilizer today that will show up in the cost of food in 12 to 18 months from now,” said Strain.

LDAF Accepting State Organic Cost-Share Rebate Applications

Louisiana agricultural producers and handlers who obtained USDA Organic certification or recertification may qualify for reimbursement to recoup some of their costs through a 2021 State Organic Cost-Share Rebate program.

The rebates are available for USDA Organic certification and recertification expenses incurred between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021.

A Holiday Turkey Tip Got an Illegal Poultry Slaughterhouse Busted in Denham Springs

A Denham Springs woman received a warning from agriculture inspectors after they discovered she was slaughtering and processing poultry without proper approvals from the state.

A Ponchatoula-based farmer first notified investigators with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry's Office of Animal Health Services in early December about a potential problem with Lucky D Farm on Hornsby Road.
