LSU AgCenter Rice Field Day Set for June 24
LSU AgCenter
CROWLEY, La. — The LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station will hold its annual field day June 24. The event will highlight variety development, pest management strategies and other research aimed at helping farmers successfully produce one of Louisiana’s most valuable crops.
Field tours will begin at 7 a.m., with wagons departing periodically until 8:30. Visitors will head into the station’s fields to see projects firsthand and hear from scientists about rice breeding; disease, insect and weed management; and agronomy research.
A scientific poster session and trade show will run from 7:15 to 10:15 a.m.
An indoor program focused on program updates and industry issues will start at 10:30 a.m. It will feature several speakers, including officials with the AgCenter, Louisiana Rice Research Board, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and USA Rice Federation.
Lunch will be served at the program’s conclusion.
The field day has been held each summer for more than 100 years. The station, located at 1373 Caffey Road near Crowley, encompasses roughly 1,000 acres dedicated to research that supports Louisiana’s rice industry.
In 2025, Louisiana harvested 3.53 billion pounds of rice, contributing $608.7 million to the state’s economy, according to AgCenter statistics. Rice is farmed on more than 462,000 acres in 30 parishes.
