Louisiana Weekly Climate Summary - April 29- May 5, 2026

By Jay Grymes

Louisiana State Climatologist

Louisiana saw a wet and active week, with widespread rainfall and several rounds of severe weather as a slow-moving front crossed the state. Rain totals were above normal across most of Louisiana, especially in central and southeastern areas.

The rainfall provided much-needed drought relief, leading to improvements across parts of central and southern Louisiana. Fire danger levels also dropped significantly, and all remaining burn bans were lifted by the end of the week.

Temperatures averaged below normal statewide for the first time since mid-March, thanks to clouds, rain, and cooler air behind the front.

The week also brought severe thunderstorms, flooding concerns, and large hail, particularly across northern Louisiana. Two Severe Thunderstorm Watches and a Flood Watch were issued, though there were no confirmed tornadoes.
