Louisiana Severe Weather Threat for Friday
By Jay Grymes
Louisiana State Climatologist
Northern Louisiana should prepare for occasional strong-to-severe t-storms on Friday evening ... but do note that the NWS timeline has the threat potentially arriving as early as the mid-afternoon. A severe weather Watch may be issued for the region.
Locally-heavy downpours onto sun-baked soils will mean a significant reduction in the "effective" precipitation for some northern parishes due to rapid runoff and slow infiltration.
The storm threat will continue to shift southward through the night and into early Saturday morning, although the overall threat will be decreasing as any storm clusters weaken will tracking to the south and southeast.
