The Farmer's Forecast: Finally Feeling Like Fall
By Nick Mikulas
We've had a large range of rainfall totals over the last week, with some areas along the I-20 corridor seeing less than an inch, and some parts of central and south Louisiana seeing 4+ inches of rain. This has knocked the moderate drought from 31% of the state to 18% of the state, but it looks like organized rain is about to shut back off for a bit.
In other news, some of you are waking up to 30s this morning! We should stay above freezing statewide, but we are only a few weeks away from our average first freeze. I don't see an imminent threat of this happening, but we are well within the range of starting to see temperatures approaching the freezing mark.
Looking ahead, there could be some light rain this weekend, especially over southern Louisiana. Totals should be less than an inch on that system. After that, the next small chance of rain won't arrive until late next week, so if you need some more dry time, it looks like you're in luck. Temperatures will start a slow warming trend next week, and while the heat of summer is gone for the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see some low 80s return by the middle to end of next week. All in all, not a bad forecast!
