Farmer’s Forecast: A Warm Christmas Ahead for Louisiana

By Nick Mikulas

Cenla Weather

After a brief cool down on Friday, it looks like warmer weather is here to stay through Christmas and beyond. Parts of western Louisiana saw 1-2 inches of rain in the last week, but many areas are still running a deficit. The good news is, the D2, severe drought has been removed from all of Louisiana! The bad news is, I don’t see significant rain in the next 7 days.

The big story through next week will be unseasonably warm temperatures that will run 15-20 degrees above climatological normals in the day and night. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a few places touch 80 degrees. What a way to welcome in the Christmas spirit! I think we can still manage. There could be a few showers late Sunday into Monday, but totals will be less than a half inch for most.

So that’s it! There’s not a ton going on in the world of weather. I do see some chance of a pattern adjustment that will allow some cooler air to reach Louisiana by the end of the year. Ensembles signal a potential cool down around 12-29 or 12-30. We shall see! Merry Christmas to all of you!
