Louisiana Drought Status: Thru 28 Oct 2025
By Jay Grymes
State Climatologist
The state experienced a slight reduction in drought coverage over the period of 22-28 October, largely due to rains during the past weekend (25-26 Oct).
Those rains also reduced the number of parishes maintaining burn bans.
Note that the rainfall outlook for the next 7 days remains dry for most of Louisiana. Although temperatures over the next several days may be lower-than-normal, evapotranspiration will still be a factor given abundant sunshine and low humidity over the coming days. Additionally, temperatures are expected to return to near-normal to above-normal levels towards the end of the upcoming 7 days.
The Louisiana Drought Team does not anticipate a significant expansion of drought nor a substantial increase in severity over the next few weeks. On the other hand, the Team does not expect any significant improvements for the state either.
