(07/09/21) NEW ROADS, La. — All crop and livestock producers are invited to attend the Louisiana Soil Health Forum for Crops and Livestock on July 15 at the Scott Civic Center in New Roads.

This meeting is one of several soil health events that the LSU AgCenter, the Louisiana Master Farmer Program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service have sponsored in the past three years across the state.

“Through a USDA Best Management Practices Education Grant, we are able to offer outreach activities that focus on improving soil health and fertility through research and demonstrations, presentations and interaction with conservation professionals,” said Donna Gentry, coordinator of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program.

The forum will provide row crop and livestock producers information about practices that improve soil health, managing weeds sustainably, updates on research projects and other topics that can positively impact their production.

Producers will receive credit for Phase 2 of the Master Farmer Program as well as continuing education credits if they are already certified. Certified crop advisor credits also will be given.

There is no cost to attend. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program will conclude by 3 p.m.
