What is the toll of trade wars on U.S. agriculture?
PBS NewsHour
U.S. agriculture has been caught in the tit-for-tat of the trade wars, most notably with China.
American agricultural exports to China fell from $15.8 billion in 2017 to $5.9 billion in 2018, according to the U.S. International Trade Administration, and exports have remained depressed in 2019.
The effects of this were concentrated in Washington, Louisiana, Texas, California, and Oregon, which together accounted for nearly 80% of 2018’s exports, according to our calculations based on data from the U.S. International Trade Administration.
