Louisiana FSA Director Has Producer Suggestions
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Louisiana Cotton and Grain Association in Monroe Tuesday, Louisiana Farm Service Agency Director Craig McCain said there is still a lot of work to do before the new farm bill policies can actually go into effect.
“I tell you that because I don’t know exactly when it will happen, but I suspect it’s gonna happen sometime about the time you normally start making your acreage report,” said McCain. “And you’re gonna be doing that in the middle of the summer of maybe late summer.”
So what does that all mean?
“It’s gonna mean several trips to FSA, you’re going to be doing multiple functions relative to sign up, we suspect there will be some program election decisions that will have to be made, you’re going to be making some acreage reports,” as well.
“I just pray we don’t end up doing that during harvest because we all know what a conflict that will make. I”m simply saying to you today you need to recognize that and do what you can to get the education that you need to be prepared to make those decisions so that if we get into late summer and you begin to have some of these conflicts, you’re prepared. That’s a lot easier said than it is done,” McCain said.
