Louisiana Rice: High-Protein LSU Variety May Gain a Toehold in the State This Year

A high-protein rice variety developed by Ida Wenefrida, Louisiana State University rice researcher, is being grown for commercial production in southern Illinois, and it’s likely that it will be grown in Louisiana soon. Wenefrida said a company, Shanghai Farm, obtained rights from the LSU AgCenter to grow her Frontière variety in Illinois, and talks are underway with another entity to grow the rice in Louisiana under a separate agreement.
