Soil Health, Cover Crop Topics to be Covered at Sugarcane Field Day

JEANERETTE, La. — A third Soil Health and Cover Crop Workshop has been scheduled in a series of soil health conferences that were held in northeast and central Louisiana in January. The latest workshop has been scheduled for July 26th in Jeanerette in conjunction with the Iberia-St. Mary- Vermilion Parish Sugarcane Field Day.

The LSU AgCenter, the Louisiana Master Farmer Program and the Natural Resources Conservation Service are planning the event.

The field day and workshop will begin with registration at 7:15am at the West St. Mary Civic Center and include an indoor program, local field tours, lunch, and additional presentations. Topics will address soil testing and interpretation, soil fertility and health, cover crops for sugarcane, residue management, 8-row planting, and other production issues.

There is no registration charge, and the public is invited. Farmers, landowners and personnel of state and federal agencies are encouraged to attend.

Participants will receive credit for Phase 2 of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program, as well as CECs for certified Master Farmers. Certified crop advisers who attend will also receive continuing education credits.
