LSU AgCenter 2023 Rabbit Show Winners Announced

The winners of the 2023 LSU AgCenter 4-H and FFA State Rabbit Show have been announced.

Rodney Johnson, AgCenter agent in Rapides Parish, said the show, which was held at the State Evacuation Shelter in Alexandria on March 4, welcomed 485 exhibition rabbits and eight meat pens.

Hundreds of hard-working exhibitors showed off all the skills acquired through their rabbit project work.

Louisiana Beef Quality Assurance Certification

On Thursday, March 16, 2023 @ 5:30 p.m., the Evangeline Parish Cattleman’s Association, and the LSU AgCenter will host a Louisiana Beef Quality Assurance Certification (BQA) for all area cattle producers.   “Beef Quality Assurance is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that provides systematic information to U.S. beef producers and beef consumers of how common-sense husbandry techniques can be coupled with accepted scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management and environmental conditions.

Mad Cow Disease Detected in Brazil, Ceasing Exports to China

A reported case of mad cow disease, (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) has halted the export of Brazilian beef to China. The disease was confirmed in the country’s northern state — Para — by the state’s agricultural defense agency. 

“The symptomatology indicates that it is the atypical form of the disease, which appears spontaneously in nature, causing no risk of dissemination to the herd and to humans,” wrote the agency in a statement.
