2026 Sugar Notables Announced

Sugar Journal is happy to announce the 2026 Sugar Notables – the 5th year to celebrate the careers of several sugar technologists in the global sugar industry. 

Since the industry is split into different segments, several categories were identified. The winners are as follows:

Sugar Cane Grower – Michael Melancon, Louisiana

Sugar Beet Grower – Luther Markwart, Washington DC

Raw Sugar Processor – Wilson LeBlanc, Louisiana

Cane Sugar Refiner – Alejandro Morales, Florida

Beet Sugar Processor – Shannon Ellis, Wyoming

Scientific Researcher – 

Beet, Rebecca Larson, Colorado

  Cane, Raul Castillo, Ecuador

Supplier Researcher – Juliusz Lewinski, Mexico

On July 25, 2026, the Sugar Journal staff will celebrate the 2025 Sugar Notables winners. 

 A fabulous dinner celebration at Antoine’s Restaurant will be the stage to honor these Sugar Notables. The menu will be included on SugarJournal.com, and the exclusive Bizou Wines Importer will provide wines. A 4-course meal with wine/tax/tip included is $250 per person.
