Four Whooping Crane Families Thriving in Jeff Davis Parish

JEFF DAVIS PARISH, La. - After Jeff Davis Parish welcomed Louisiana’s first whooping crane chick of 2026, four families of the endangered species are now thriving in the parish.

The whooping crane families are nesting and raising their chicks in privately-owned crawfish fields, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
