The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is organizing a one-day, statewide Membership Monday drive today, May 11, bringing together staff, existing members and volunteers to increase membership while strengthening Louisiana agriculture.
Richard Fontenot, Louisiana Farm Bureau president, said the initiative reflects the organization’s longstanding foundation of bringing people together to support Louisiana agriculture.
“Those that built this organization over 103 years ago wanted us to be part of something bigger than we are individually,” Fontenot said.
Fontenot says Farm Bureau is driven by its membership to advocate for farmers, ranchers and rural families while protecting and promoting agriculture. Membership Monday is intended to reconnect the organization with its grassroots foundation and encourage greater participation in its shared mission.
Membership is open not only to farmers, but also to those working in the agriculture industry and everyday consumers interested in supporting Louisiana agriculture.
“Whether you’re a part-time farmer or you’re not in production agriculture, you ate today, and agriculture matters to you,” Fontenot said. “There’s an opportunity to be part of something that shares those values and principles.”
Membership offers a variety of benefits, including discounts on cars, paint, tools and more. Fontenot said membership value extends beyond discounts and services. Members gain access toadvocacy efforts, educational programs and leadership opportunities that strengthen Louisiana agriculture.
“We have opportunities to help you get involved and understand what’s going on, so we have the safest, most abundant food supply for generations,” Fontenot said.
The drive also aims to strengthen the community within the organization itself. By involving participants at every level from local offices to state leadership, Membership Monday brings members and staff together around a shared purpose.
“There’s a real excitement on the topic because we can work together on a common goal,” Fontenot said. “We are all Louisiana Farm Bureau. At the end of the day, if one of us succeeds, we all succeed.”
Membership opportunities are available to anyone interested in supporting Louisiana agriculture, reinforcing the role agriculture plays in everyday life. The initiative is intended to strengthen the communities Louisiana Farm Bureau serves for generations to come.
