USDA's Rollins Signals Possible Action Soon On Fertilizer Prices
Brownfield
Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins says it will require a significant effort from the administration to help improve fertilizer costs in the short term.
But, during her testimony in front of a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday, she told lawmakers that an announcement could come soon. “We’ve had daily calls with the White House, with EPA, with DHS, with Commerce and with Treasury, the very top of these organizations for an all-government approach for fertilizer.”
She says there are serious concerns about the long-term price outlook. “The fact that we have off shored so much of our fertilizer over the last decade or so is astounding to me. It is a national security issue when we are relying on China and Russia for fertilizer.”
Rollins didn’t indicate when more details would be released but said it may include some form of additional funding.
