Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Urges Passage of New Farm Bill
Louisiana Farm Bureau urges Congress to pass the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 as it advanced out of the House Committee on Agriculture on March 5, 2026. Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation President Richard Fontenot sent a letter to the state’s congressional delegation, including Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, outlining the urgent need for updated policy.
President Fontenot issued the following statement after sending the letter to the delegation:
“The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation strongly supports the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 and commends the House Agriculture Committee for advancing this legislation in a bipartisan vote. Moving this bill out of committee marks an important step toward providing much-needed certainty for farmers and ranchers who are facing rising input costs, market volatility, and increasing financial pressure. A strong farm bill is essential to ensure producers have the tools and policy framework necessary to manage risk and remain economically viable. America’s farmers play a critical role in feeding our nation and the world, and their ability to continue producing depends on stable and effective agricultural policy. The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 strengthens that foundation and reinforces the importance of a secure and resilient food system. Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation urges Congress to continue building on this momentum and move swiftly to pass this legislation in the House of Representatives.”
