Louisiana Shuts Down Some Oyster Harvesting Areas After Oil Spill Raises Contamination Fears

COCODRIE, La. — State health officials have closed multiple oyster harvesting areas in coastal Louisiana as concerns grow over the impact of an oil spill near Port Fourchon.

The Louisiana Department of Health said Basin 12, including Harvest Areas 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21, is now closed “out of an abundance of caution” due to reports of oil sheen and increased marine traffic tied to cleanup efforts from the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port spill.
