Love is Sweet: Love Stories from the Farm
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, one of the sweetest days of the year and a day to celebrate those you cherish. Many Americans plan to incorporate treats into their holiday, with the National Retail Federation finding that 56% of Americans planning to give a Valentine’s Day gift have their eye on candy. We are grateful to help you celebrate, whether you’re gifting a heart-shaped box of chocolates or whipping up a home-baked dessert.
The real sugar in your sweet treats comes from two crops grown here in America: sugarbeets and sugarcane. The family farmers who grow those crops exhibit love every single day, whether it’s love for their families and the next generation of farmers, the land they steward with care and dedication, or the communities that rely on the economic engine of sugar production.
❤️ Many of America’s 11,000 sugarbeet and sugarcane farmers are passing along multi-generational farming legacies to their children and grandchildren.
❤️ These family farmers produce the equivalent of about 4.5 billion 4-pound bags of sugar a year, contributing more than $23 billion to the economy every year and supporting more than 151,000 jobs across the country.
❤️ All while meeting some of the highest labor, environmental, and food quality standards in the world.
Meet four farming couples and learn what being part of America’s farming legacy means to them:
Rooted in the land and bonded by love, we know how sweet life becomes when you work side-by-side; just like sugarcane, grown together and rich with purpose, we are proud of the sweetest gift of life.
Danielle wears a lot of hats including homeschooling our kids, keeping up with dance and church activities, and being a true partner on the farm. Farming together is not always easy, but doing life side by side makes it incredibly rewarding. I am grateful every day to farm, raise a family, and build a future with her.
‘A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.’ – Proverbs 27:9
This is true in our marriage and working on the farm raisin’ cane – our sweet friendship refreshes us on good days and hard days in life and in farming – resulting in a sweet life with sweet memories.
Doing what I love with who I love is the sweet life.
How wonderful it is to have the sweetest farmers right here in America – let's continue to support the strong farm and trade policies that reinforce our national food security ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day from America’s sugar producers.
