The Farmer's Forecast: Weather Pattern Flip

Cenla Weather
As we flip the calendar to November, it looks like our weather pattern will also begin to flip. This is incredible news for pretty much everyone as we now have a significant part of the state in a D4 exceptional drought, which is the top of the scale when it comes to drought conditions.
Our first chance for rain comes this weekend as an upper level system rolls this way from the west. This will team up with some leftover moisture from Tropical Storm Vance to bring scattered rain to Louisiana on Saturday into Saturday evening. Not everyone will see rain from this, and most of us will end up catching less than an inch.
The next system is more significant, but doesn’t look like a drought busting rain. This system will arrive Monday night and last into Tuesday. This one could bring at least some severe threat, and a more widespread coverage of rain. I don’t want to get too optimistic here, but some areas could see up to 2 inches of rain, especially if some of the slower models end up panning out. This system will also have a fairly significant cold front that will bump highs down into the 60s and 70s with lows back into the 40s and 50s.
Beyond these chances for rain, the long range forecasts are at least somewhat optimistic that we will see rain chances sticking around. I still don’t see that big system that takes a big bite out of the drought, but any liquid falling from the sky is a good thing! I’ll be watching it all, and will hopefully have more encouraging news next week!
