The Farmer's Forecast: It's Convention Time!
By Nick Mikulas
It’s Convention week! You know what that means. It’s going to be hot and humid with a chance of storms each day. I think I could recycle that sentence and use it for the next few months. The good news is, I don’t see a chance for tropical development in the next 10 days. In fact, The Climate Prediction Center shows below normal precipitation across the Caribbean over the first half of July. That’s one of the areas we look at for development, and I think we are all just fine with it looking quiet over the next few weeks.
Here in Louisiana, I expect more of the same, with scattered storms each day, especially in the southern half of the state. The I-10 corridor will likely see another 1-3 inches of rain in the next week, with less than an inch in most cases north of a Many to Winnfield to Waterproof line. That said, it just takes one of these pop-up storms to put down a quick burst of heavy rain. Temperatures should be close to seasonal normals in the low to mid 90s. I can’t imagine the stress and frustration of being a farmer while depending on the right balance of weather this time of year. Hopefully this weekend will be a nice breather from that stress. See you at Convention!
