Farmer’s Forecast: Friday Showers, Weekend Sunshine

By Nick Mikulas

Cenla Weather

It looks like another day of scattered rain and storms for Friday, followed by a nice stretch of dry weather through the middle of next week. Warm weather will continue, probably for the next 6 months or so, but you knew that already. I don’t see widespread 90s on the way just yet, but we should stay in the 80s through the first week of May. Our next round of rain is going to hit around Thursday of next week, so if you need things to stop, I think you’ll get 4-5 days of little to no rain after Friday.

We are in that time of year where rainfall totals vary greatly across the state. Parts of Cameron and Vermillion Parish, while radar estimates show parts of Lafayette Parish saw over 7 inches of rain. That means over about 45 miles we went from flooding rain, to not a drop of rain. Never a dull moment for forecasters or farmers!

The seasonal outlook for the next few months is for above normal temperatures, with a slight lean toward above normal precipitation. I tend to think that’s a good thing around these parts, as the Louisiana heat can turn a swamp to a desert in no time at all. For now, enjoy the calm stretch through the weekend, and if you ever have a specific question about a local forecast for your area, don’t hesitate to email me at nick@cenlaweather.com!
