The Farmer's Forecast: It's Dry!
Nick Mikulas
Dry weather is settling in statewide, after some spots actually saw too much rain! That's hard to believe from here in central Louisiana, where we have stayed quite dry. The drought monitor shows several areas of moderate drought, and it looks like this will worsen in the coming weeks. I've shared a map that shows most of the state has seen less than half of the rain it should see in the last 30 days, with some exceptions in southeast Louisiana, and up near the Arkansas border.
So where do we go from here? Unfortunately, the next 10 days look really dry, and the next month doesn't look terribly promising. In fact, the 3 month outlook is for below average precipitation across the state, and I have little reason to deviate from that forecast. That's not a definite, take it to the bank forecast, but if you need to start making long range plans for a dry winter, I'd go ahead and do that. I wish I had better news, but Louisiana weather is notorious for giving us too little or too much in a short time! Hopefully I'll have a glimmer of hope next week.
