Educational Pumpkin Patch Opens in Evangeline Parish

Clint and Raquel Manuel, co-owners of Manuel Farms Cattle Co., recently announced the opening of a new educational pumpkin patch in Evangeline Parish, designed specifically for local school field trips. This fall, the Manuels are inviting preschoolers, homeschool co-ops, and small educational groups to experience the magic of agriculture through a hands-on, interactive pumpkin patch experience.

Manuel Farms Cattle Co., known for its high-quality farm-to-table beef and round bale production, has been a staple in Louisiana’s agricultural community for years. As chairs of the Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers and District Directors on the Young Farmers and Ranchers State Committee, Clint and Raquel have been deeply involved in promoting agriculture and supporting the next generation of farmers. Together they won the state YF&R Excellence in Agriculture Award last June.

Their experiences within the Farm Bureau Federation inspired them to explore new ways to diversify their farm business. Recognizing a gap in the availability of pumpkin-picking experiences in the area, Raquel, with her passion for agricultural education and seasonal celebrations, saw an opportunity to create something special for the local community.

The result is the “mini patch,” a charming and educational pumpkin patch located on the Manuel family homestead in Faubourg, where Clint’s family has been farming for four generations. The patch will be open by reservation only, allowing small groups of students to enjoy a personalized and immersive experience.

“We’re excited to offer this unique opportunity to local students,” said Raquel Manuel. “Our goal is to plant a seed in their hearts, helping them understand that everyone plays a small but important role in agriculture.”

Each field trip to the mini patch will include a storytime session, a plant education experience, a visit to a petting zoo, and the chance for every child to pick their very own pumpkin. The Manuels are reaching out to local preschools and homeschool groups to reserve their spots for this memorable fall activity.

By offering this pumpkin patch experience, the Manuels hope to connect the next generation with the roots of farming, fostering a love and appreciation for agriculture from an early age.
