Learn about funding for ag-related internship programs
Through this grant, Louisiana businesses can establish internship programs that grow the next generation of agriculture professionals while strengthening their own businesses.
Key program details
Application Period: Annually July 1st to September 1st
Applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis.
Financial Support: Participating businesses may receive reimbursement of up to 50% of the intern hiring costs, with a maximum award amount of $5,000.
Qualified Participants: Eligible businesses include agricultural producers, entities engaged in agriculture, and those providing related support activities or services.
Intern Eligibility: Louisiana secondary or postsecondary students and beginning farmers or ranchers employed by agricultural businesses.
Work Requirements: Internships should offer at least 130 hours of work experience, not exceeding one year in duration, and interns must be paid at least the minimum wage rate as per the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.
Businesses must also possess Workers’ Compensation insurance.

If selected, the Louisiana Agricultural Finance Authority (LAFA) will provide an internship application to be submitted by the intern or beginning farmer.
