Louisiana Farm Bureau President Jim Harper announced he will not seek reelection to the position he’s held since June 2020.
“It is an honor to serve as president,” Harper said. “I am proud of the accomplishments Louisiana Farm Bureau has made in its 102-year history and that I was the organization’s leader for its centennial. This is not a decision I make lightly, but family comes first and that is where I must focus my energy in the future.”
Harper farms sugarcane, rice, crawfish and soybeans with his brother in Rapides Parish.
This decision brings an end to 25 years of service on the Louisiana Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Harper previously served as first vice-president from 2003-2020 and was on the Louisiana Farm Bureau Board of Directors representing District IV from 1998-2003.
The voting delegates will elect a new president at the Louisiana Farm Bureau Annual Convention set for June 27-30, 2024.
Founded in 1921, the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general farm organization representing more than 145,000 member families.
