Jason Franklin gets no days off during the farming season — even when temperatures soar into the triple digits.

His family’s 2,500-acre farm sits in Crowville, Louisiana, a small, rural community of just under 4,000 people. One of Franklin’s main jobs is serving as an etymologist, or a “scout,” as he calls it.
