Louisiana Farm Bureau President Jim Harper sent letters to Congressman Clay Higgins and Senator Bill Cassidy to thank the two lawmakers for filing companion bills to help farmers and fishermen.

The Prioritizing Offensive Agriculture Disputes and Enforcement Act would identify trade barriers to U.S. agricultural exports and develop strategies to enforce violations of trade agreements, according to a press release.

“Through this act, you and your colleagues in Congress are showing the world that we no longer will stand aside as bad actors like India continuously operate outside of trade agreements and World Trade Organization standards,” Harper wrote. “This strong sign of leadership does not go unnoticed by our organization, and we thank you for making our voices heard.”

Louisiana 2nd District Congressman Troy Carter and 5th District Congresswoman Julia Letlow have signed on as co-authors of Higgins’ bill in the House.
