Women Increasingly Pursue Ag Careers

In an industry historically dominated by men, women are making their mark in agriculture. The U.S. had 1.2 million female producers, accounting for 36% of the country’s 3.4 million total, according to the last agriculture census.  Female producers are slightly younger, more likely to be a beginning farmer, and more likely to live on the farm they operate than male producers. 

As the deadline for the next ag census approaches during the first quarter of 2023, indications are more women are entering the industry than a generation ago.
