The cotton markets last week climbed to over 90-cents a pound. Cotton market analyst Dr. O.A. Cleveland predicted that a while back and knows why.
“Demand has carried us all the way. And particularly the US consumer has been an exceptionally strong engine that’s been driving this market,” says Cleveland.
“We look at the retail sales which has really been strong, you look at cotton rich commodities off the retail shelf, apparel sales are up, cotton’s share of the market is up, after being down for so long.
“On any given day there are about 100 million people around the world shopping for blue jeans. Again, demand has been the large engine that’s driving the market.”
