The Louisiana Master Farmer Program, Louisiana Soil & Water Conservation Districts, and the Louisiana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative were recently awarded a grant through the National Wildlife Federation. This grant offers a funding opportunity for up to $15,000 available to producers and natural resource partners (extension agents, NRCS, etc.) engaged in agricultural outreach through the Conservation Champions program. Applications are now open through December 1st.
Since 2013, the Conservation Champions program, formerly known as Cover Crop Champions, has supported on-the-ground conservation efforts by providing teams of leading farmers and natural resource professionals with communications training and small grants to conduct “out of the box” outreach in their local communities. Building on success in other states, we are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to those involved in sustainable agriculture in Louisiana. Farmers, livestock and forage producers, conservation district, agency, and extension staff, NGOs, and others are eligible to apply. Funding is flexible and can be spent on time, travel and many other expenses associated with holding soil health focused events and other outreach.
Program activities will begin in January of 2022.
An informational webinar will be held Wednesday, October 27th at 1pm CT. Register here.
