Family-Owned Farms Account for 96% of U.S. Farms
When discussing where our food comes from, the agriculture industry always promotes its high percentage of family owned farms. However, that number went down a few percentage points, according to a new report. Family farms comprise 96 percent of all U.S. farms, account for 87 percent of land in farms, and 82 percent of the value of all agricultural products sold, according to the 2017 Census of Agriculture Farm Typology report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
