BATON ROUGE — Spanish Town residents are fed up after someone damaged property in their neighborhood.
Along Spanish Town street sits a dozen of beautiful trees, damaged by an unknown perpetrator.
Over the last few weeks, someone has been drilling holes in the trunks — causing the trees’ life spans to shorten.
“They’re drilled downward which capture water. The water gets in there it’s going to eventually kill the trees” said Mary Jane Marcantal.
She said, not only is it wrong to kill the trees, but in this case, it’s illegal.
“We have filed a police report because it’s a criminal act contacted the Louisiana forestry commission, they’ve come out here to see if there is any possibility of saving the trees. They tell us, no and we contact the historic preservation commission because we are a historic neighborhood and these trees are protected” said Marcantal.
