Rep. Abraham Announces Inclusion of Crawfish in Coronavirus Food Assistance Program

On Tuesday, Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., R-Alto, announced the inclusion of crawfish aquaculture under the USDA's Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), a change for which Abraham strongly advocated in cooperation with the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and the LSU AgCenter. The economic loss experienced by the Louisiana crawfish industry due to COVID-19 is estimated at more than $146 million for 2020.

"This a great news for the crawfish industry, which was hit hard by COVID-19 and is so important to the economy and the culture in Louisiana. The CFAP program is vital to ensuring our farmers and ranchers are able to bounce back from COVID-19 while continuing to provide food for much of the world," said Abraham. "When CFAP was first announced without crawfish, I started working with the Louisiana Congressional Delegation, Louisiana Farm Bureau and LSU AgCenter to correct this mistake. I thank them in addition to Secretary Sonny Perdue and President Trump, who have been a huge help to our farmers since day one."
